Remember this?
Or this?
If not, go and read this story.
The backstory to Otter’s coming to live with us is - of course - more complex than what I wrote in those three entries.
A few things I didn’t write in 2005:
- It is wise to keep me away from animals when I am depressed. Because when I am depressed, animals somehow end up living with me. Fortunately, Amy’s put the kibosh on any more animals in the house, so even if I end up both depressed and near adoptable animals again, I’m likely to walk away fur-free.
- I said this to Amy: ““We’ll let Maggie decide. If she tries to take his face off, we won’t pursue it any further.” What I didn’t write in 2005 was the statement which immediately preceded that comment: “If we don’t let Maggie meet him, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.” Fortunately, she called me on it very shortly thereafter - and I remembered saying it - so now we both know I can never use such a statement again unless I truly honestly 110% mean it. And really, it’s not likely that we’ll run into a situation where I feel that strongly.
- Amy also said this to me: “He’s bigger and he’s going to eat more and he’s going to shed more and he’s going to need more exercise and he’s going to poop more.” She was right. But I will say this: he’s more than doubled the entertainment factor in our family, as various videos have shown.
I love our big goofy dog, even if he was an ill-thought-out addition to our lives. There are few days that go by when he doesn’t annoy the living daylight out of us, but there are even fewer that go by where he doesn’t make us laugh our butts off.
Smoochies to you, BigOtter! We love you.

2005 - “What the heck IS this wet stuff?”

2007 - “Can I splash some more?”

2005 - “This is a weird spot for sleeping.”

2007 - “Daytime television really IS dreadful.”

2006 - “Where’s my momma?”

2007 - “WAHOOOOOO! PARTY ON GARTH!!!”
Monday-morning clean-up.
Brought out 3 boxes of paper, did all the recycling in the reference room, filled the printers with paper, found 2 boxes of toner to put in the spare-toner cabinet, and picked up all the books in the reference room and brought them to Circulation.
Student doing research paper on Egyptian and Moroccan war recruits in World War I was looking for British foreign documents from 1914-1919.
After a wild goose chase which involved me sending her to the stacks to find a book which would likely have a nice bibliography, I found a reference book that discussed most HMSO publications. And wouldn’t you know? The one we were looking for? We’d actually touched later years of it in the documents stacks. Somehow we both missed the fact that it went back in time and covered the years we wanted.
Since I don’t want to take credit for the blunder, I blame Rick Santorum for our oversight. (Long story, but thanks to Sam for that lovely little blaming tidbit.)
Was Wellesley Week published this week?
No.
What production is Shakespeare Society doing in the spring?
No idea, and it’s not on their web page. Best bet is to call them.
Several requests for MLA Handbook.
One request for tape dispenser and a single paper clip.
After the reference shift, I had lunch with the art librarian (who I don’t see nearly enough of during the semester), barreled through email, and began writing a letter of nomination for an award. That took me to the end of the day.
Two more workdays this week and then it’s Thanksgiving! I’m looking forward to seeing family and friends, and to enduring not JUST flying and not JUST driving during the Thanksgiving weekend, but BOTH. Look at you, all green with envy. You’re jealous and I know it!
Short update on tonight’s hockey game (hey, the Patriots are playing and I need to pay attention to the game!)
First off, we won 2-1. Amy scored both our goals, and their goal came on a power play.
Lines were:
- D: LisaT/Nancy and STP/me
- C: Amy, Marcia
- F: Lib/Jonesy, WES/Holly, Mich/Tracey
Lynn did awesome back in goal tonight! She made some really great saves - saves that last year she would have had a difficult time pulling off. It’s really neat to see her gaining a lot of confidence and playing more aggressively.
The heartbreak of the night (which was reminiscent of the soccer game that Amy, Lib, and Nancy played earlier in the day) was the fact that we had SO MANY CHANCES to score and either their goalie made amazing saves or we just ever-so-slightly missed the mark. Lib in particular was robbed on a couple of beautiful backhand shots. Coach was talking with us after the game and her comment on that was something to the effect of “you had the puck on your backhand, took the shot, it was blocked back to you, you took another shot and lifted it this time, and it lifted 11 inches off the ice and the goalie’s pads were 12 inches tall.”
It was a fun game. There’s no practice this week with the team (although I am practicing with the club college team) and no game next weekend. A bit of respite is a good thing right about now. We are missing a scrimmage up in New Hampshire on Friday, and a couple of pickups at Walpole, but I suppose we’ll survive somehow!
I really, really, reaaaaaaaally meant to blog yesterday. Somehow I just never got around to it after work. I came home, talked with Amy while she cooked, and then our friends came over for dinner. After dinner Amy wanted to watch a movie and when she suggested The Incredibles, everyone seemed happy. And then the movie was over, our friends left, and it was time for bed.
I ask you, when in that whole time was I supposed to blog? It just wasn’t happening. So I’m not going to backdate this post, but I’m also not going to let a little thing like having a social life prevent me from claiming success at this whole NaBloPoMo experience. Because I am INCREDIBLE!
too tired to blog today. move along, nothing to see here.
