37. Try snowboarding

I have the best wife in the world! She knows how much I’ve been enjoying this whole 40 in 40 adventure, and she also knows that I took a little bit of a hiatus from it in November and December. So rather than let me dangle in the breeze of my own ineptitude, she helped me get back on the horse, so to speak.

This was one of my Christmas presents:

Gift!
Most fun present ever!

Honestly, how lucky am I? We had a blast! Our lesson was pretty basic – how to move around on flat land on the snowboard, how to do a couple of turns, and how to stop. No one in our group was particularly talented, although Amy and I were better than most (hooray for Crossfit and being naturally athletic!) After our lesson, we hit the bunny slope a couple of times and then headed up the chair lift for an inaugural run down a “real” hill. I’ve got to say, I have never fallen so hard, gotten so bruised, or had so much fun learning something new as I did last Saturday!

I'm going soooooo fast! (Or maybe standing still and posing - I'll never admit which!)
Snowboarding
We both spent a fair amount of time like this all day long....

This was me at my most controlled. Of course, I was standing still.

Happy girls on the ski lift!

  1. HOORAY for snowboarding, and for another thing ticked off on the 40 in 40 list!

You’ll get the hang of it eventually. I find the trick is just to have faith. If I stop having faith, I start doing things wrong. Just relaxing and going with it (which is pretty much the whole snowboarding attitude come to think of it) seems to be the best way to go.

Assuming you can get over the initial bruises, of course. That part sucks.
