Today’s the last day of NaBloPoMo – my third time around. While I posted every day, I’m not sure that it was as successful this time, since frankly, there were a lot of days when I didn’t have much to say. I tried using my trick of setting up topics ahead of time which kind of worked, but not really.
I don’t write about work, which cuts out 1/3 of my life for blog fodder. Given that I sleep for another 1/3, you only get to see 1/3 of my life in here. And that 1/3 is taken up by:
- playing hockey
- playing with the dogs
- reading books
- watching hockey
- doing housework
The only remotely interesting blog-fodder in there is playing hockey (sometimes playing with dogs) (but not reading, since I really don’t like to write book reviews.) I’m not sure that I’m going to do NaBloPoMo next November. My life will have had to change some if I’m going to, since I don’t really want to put up some of the filler posts I put up this year.
Maybe I’ll make a New Year’s Resolution to blog more routinely in 2009, rather than doing a full month of posting. Possibly a twice-a-week schedule would be good… given that I’ve usually got one hockey game a week, finding something to say in the other post shouldn’t be quite as hard.
That feels okay. Let’s see if I can pull it off!
Don’t read books about anxiety when you’ve got big projects going on at work.
Powerbars taste like crap.
Advil does not work for your headaches; Tylenol or Excedrin do.
Unintentional hilarity is the best kind. Don’t be the person who’s unintentionally hilarious though.
Go to IKEA to get several more GOSIG KANIN toys (aka “buuuuuunny” who Otter loves).
Programming home voice mail number into cell phone is a smart idea.
Milwaukee airport does not have free wireless (fie on you!) so be sure to download stuff to read before flying on Wednesday.
Midwest Airlines – for all their fabulousness in terms of chocolate chip cookies – charges for baggage, so pack lightly and don’t check a bag on Wednesday.
Kick the dogs out of bed when you’re really tired or you will wake up with cricks in your body.
Check your twitter account when you want to track headaches. You tweet about them a fair amount.
Use the word “unglued” more often to describe behavior of those who act that way.
- I am IMing with Chanda.
- My toes are just about warmed up after hockey practice in the world’s second-coldest rink (the UPenn 1923 rink is colder).
- My hair is still wet from sweat even though practice ended over 90 minutes ago.
- My hockey gloves make my hands smell horrid. I need to wash them.
- Otter’s drool spot on the sofa is nearly dry (we forgot to put the dining room chair on the sofa before we left – whoops.)
- The Blackhawks are beating the Coyotes 2-0 at 15:52 in the second.
- Amy’s eating a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup (leftover Halloween candy).
- Maggie is still upstairs, having never come down to greet us when we came in after practice.
- I am looking for a photo of an eggroll to email to Laura, who wanted one during practice.
- Success!

It’s Thursday and I’ve got nothing. So instead of blogging, I’m going to eat dinner (grilled steak!) and talk with Amy & Steph while the Bruins and Patriots games are on in the background.

Dinner time!
And today it begins… year three of NaBloPoMo!
Last night was a bust in terms of trick-or-treaters. We only got 10 kids, and that makes me sad. The dogs enjoyed being locked in the bedroom with Kongs stuffed full of treats, though, so I suppose we could up the count to 12.
We have a very social week ahead of us. This weekend our friend Tammy is staying with us while she’s at a retreat in Marlboro. Then friend Chanda is coming to the area all next week since she’s got a week off from her hockey residency in Minnesota. Mike from Oregon is flying in on election day for 3 days to go to a conference in Cambridge, and LJF is spending next weekend in town after finishing her grad school comps. On top of all this are 3 hockey games, election day and the aftermath, 3 classes I need to teach, and a generally long week at work after being out for this conference for the past 4 days. I think I need a break from next week before it even happens…
Okay, off to clean this disaster of a house before Tammy rolls in later this afternoon.
